Lakeview Gunnison
Talk about a view! This campground offers amazing and vast views of the Sawatch mountain range and Taylor Reservoir. I think we spent more time outside our camper just so we can admire the awesome view. It's nice how the campground is up on a hillside so that almost of the campsites have a nearly unobstructed view of the area. The campsite itself only has an electric hookup, no water or sewer. The sites are dirt/gravel pad with a picnic table and campfire ring. There are vault toilets, drinking water, and trash dumpsters nearby. The campground offers back-in and pull-through sites. The one amenity that this place was missing was a dump station. We asked the campground host if there was one nearby and there is one, but it is about 5 miles east on a dirt road. For directions to this RV dump station, scroll down. Another plus to this campground is that the sites are fairly far apart from each other, unlike most other RV parks. This area features Taylor Reservoir which offers many recreational activities, such as boating, fishing, kayaking and paddle boarding. Most outdoor enthusiasts come here to take advantage of the numerous ATV/dirt bike trails east of the reservoir. If you're into fly fishing, there is access just west of the reservoir dam on the Taylor River and a tributary to the north of the lake which offers amazing fishing opportunities. This area is a great central location to access many outdoor activities and mountain towns such as Buena Vista to the east, and Gunnison and Crested Butte to the west. We had good cell and LTE reception in this location with Verizon.
