casey's RV hideaway
At first glance, this RV park is not much of a looker, and unfortunately, as we drove in and parked our camper, our impression of this place didn't get any better. First off, it is right off of a busy road just outside the town of Elizabeth, CO. We camped at site #2, which we do not recommend as it's pretty close to the entrance and dump station, so it was noisy with cars and smelly with the sewer odor when someone was dumping their black water tank. The campground is in a forest of ponderosa pine trees, but other than that, there's not much else in scenery. There was trash scattered in our campsite and felt like we were on top of our neighbors. Just outside the kitchen window, we couldn't escape only seeing "It'll Do Bar & Grill" on our neighbors trailer rear filling up the entire window frame. The campsite pad is gravel and was a bit unlevel as we had to raise one side a few inches. There is a picnic table and partial hookups of electric and water. The dump station is just located at the entrance of the campground and there is a number code lock on the sewer cap keeping it closed. So, keep your email confirmation handy as there is a code on that email labeled "gate code". We thought there was going to be a gate to open with that gate code, but when we entered the campground there was no gate. So, we were a bit confused why there was a gate code. Later, we found out that it's for the dump station only because another fellow camper flagged us down asking if there was some sort of code in the email confirmation and I had said that there was a "gate code" listed. It ended up being the code for the lock on the sewer lid. As for activities, there's not much to do near this immediate area. There are no lakes or reservoirs nearby. The closest thing we found was Castlewood Canyon State Park, which is about 13 miles southwest from the campground. The town of Castle Rock is about 17 mi east. There 25 are campsites, some are pull-through and some are back-in. We had great internet and cell phone reception. It is $35/night.
