Have you guys had issues with your weight distribution hitch? We’ve always been a bit paranoid that our hitch wasn’t installed exactly right because the back of our tow vehicle seemed really low and the front looked too lifted. When driving at night our headlights looked like they were on the high beam setting when they were not.
So, I don’t know about you guys but we had the toughest time attaching our hitch ball into our coupler the first time we hitched up. We kept backing the car in and out to try to match the hitch ball underneath the coupler to see if we can get it to connect, but every time we did we could get the ball in the coupler, but we could not get the lock in place. This was super frustrating and we were at our wits end! At the dealership, when they hitched up, they didn’t really give us any tips or pointers on how to do this easily, they just had us back up our tow vehicle and somehow miraculously the ball went into the coupler and easily locked into place. So for future hitches, I did a little thinking and noticed that when we unhitched the ball would slip out in front of the coupler when the ball was totally released. So this got me thinking to have the ball slightly in front of the opening so that when we do lower our tongue jack the hitch ball would literally be rubbing the front part of the coupler and ultimately getting sucked or pulled into the opening of the coupler. This is kind of hard to explain so I made a quick video demonstrating this so hopefully it’ll make it easier for anyone else who is having issues with this as well.
